Today is just a lazy afternoon for me.

Am on leave, no plans to go out watsoever. Did some housework and washing my furkids entire load of toys.

Then came the usual surfing.

When i came across this.

I really couldn't believe what i saw.

As the world harps on the massive destruction that Hurricane Katrina had done to the place, the people and how much they have suffered, no one seems to report the other group that too are affected by the hurricane.

Our Animal Friends.

My heart twinge as i read on , the stories and the pictures left such a sour feeling in my heart that i couldn't take it.


"In one example reported last week by The Associated Press, a police officer took a dog from one little boy waiting to get on a bus in New Orleans. "Snowball! Snowball!" the boy cried until he vomited. The policeman told a reporter he didn't know what would happen to the dog."

"The fate of pets is a huge but underappreciated cause of anguish for storm survivors, said Richard Garfield, professor of international clinical nursing at New York's Columbia University.
"People in shelters are worried about 'Did Fluffy get out?' " he said. "It's very distressing for people, wondering if their pets are isolated or starving."

"They fed their guniea pig and left it in its cage in a patient room. They couldn't refill its empty water bottle because the hospital's plumbing failed Sunday, they said. They poured food on the floor for the cat, but again no water.
"I just hope that they forgive me," Valerie Bennett cried."

"At the hospital, a doctor euthanized some animals at the request of their owners, who feared they would be abandoned and starve to death."

"...... found the rotting remains of two poodles. Checking on the other side of the bed, Laura discovered a barely living third poodle who "smelled of death." Laura picked up her tiny, limp body and offered the dog water, but she refused it. Laura sat with the dog in her arms while team members secured a carrier for her to be placed in, but it was too late. The dog "took her last breath" and died in Laura's arms. ......the poodle's muzzle was covered with blood, leading her to suspect that the dog had been cannibalizing the remains of her peers in an attempt to stay alive. It was an "absolutely heartbreaking" end to the day, Laura said."

This is the final straw.

"The dog had been left in the crate without any food or water. The team couldn’t determine how long she had survived such deprivation, but they did notice a large gap in the crate’s wire door, where the dog had apparently chewed and clawed in her desperate attempt to escape and try to survive.

“I can’t imagine the pain, suffering, and panic she felt,” Laura said, as she first endured the storm and ensuing flood before slowly dying, probably of starvation and/or dehydration.

Laura said that the dog’s head was “slumped up against the crate’s door,” leading her to believe that the dog had only died after finally giving up her frantic attempt to escape. It was “one of the most striking, heartbreaking things I’ve ever seen,” Laura said."

I cried.

And on a lazy tuesday afternoon.

The furkids are staring at me like "oh no? What did we do again? Why is she crying?"

Haha. Silly them.

They don't know that it is not them that i am crying about , but at how helpless i feel, at the curelty of mankind, at "the survivor of the fittest" theory.

Initially i thought that natural disaster like Katrina took their lives away.

As i read on, i wondered, how can the owners be so heartless and left them at home to die while they left.

i realised that many people wanted to bring their pets along with them but the rescuers stopped them.

I'd understand that if the people wanted to bring their horse along or something but due to place constrints doesn't permit you too.

But a chihuahua? a poodle? a cat? a bird? a guniea pig?

"Now they are saying there are packs of wild dogs hindering repair crews. They will have to shoot them. "

Yet the rescuers forced people to abandon their life companions, at the point of rescue, at the bus, at the shelter. They even tried to separate a blind woman from her guide dog but she refused and stayed in her flooded home 6 more days until they came back and let her evacuate with her dog."

sigh.

I really don't know how to continue at this point of time.

Kudos to Animal Groups Like PETA, and if you click on the links and read about the stories about animal rescues, you will know how great these people are.

Being in the profession i'm in, there are times when i'm activated to provide medical relief. They are about the same and they do it to our furry friends.

It really makes me wonder that during emergency like this, what will happen to my furkids?

I guess i will never leave them behind. I can't bring myself too. Probably i'll be like the blind woman and stay back with them if i can't bring them along.

I remembered the other time when i felt the aftershock of the earthquake tremors (from indonesia) at home, my first instinct was to grab my "bookie" bag and the furkids outta the house.

Like i always hear from a certain group of elite force ," LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND!"

P006 Rawks!

Was on course since Jul 11 and after the paramedic phase ended, the 8 of us proceeded to the combat phase.

There are pros and cons of having such a small group size.

Pros are things are done fast, easily settled and being a cohesive group.

Cons are there is a shortage of manpower!! Hahahahahha. Which is evident when we are building the B.C.S.

Some funny moments that happened in class.....


There is this map planning exercise where we had to draft out plans after plans.

This is one of the plans we drafted out which is so full of controversey.

Jaya: This plan looks like a picture of a dog!

San-d: It looks a like a dog eating a bird!

Ben: It looks like an inverted nipple ad. You know, those before and after the inverted nipple get corrected?

Class: *silence for 3 secs* * crow flying past ala anime style*

San-d: Ben! You are freaking pervert ! People only think of dogs and birds, you think of nipples!!

Ben: Really look like wat!!

What happened after that is the rest of the gals started bombing ben while the rest of the guys laugh on.

Irene will kill me (i think) if she knew i posted this pic. But this pic is a classic. Reason being that i didn't aim or anything, i just put the camera by my side and snap without even facing the camera. And i managed to capture such a classic moment.

One of our fav pastime. The thing that keeps both irene and me going throughout the combat phase. Our Nintendo DS "Zookeeper" Challenge.

Went funan with Ben and Soh on the last day of course. Ben had $40 voucher to spend, Soh wanted to get a graphic card and I wanted to get the nintendog skin for my DS. Wanted to change into CV but we thought, hack la. Not as if wear uniform cannot go out. Actually we are also kinda lazy to change. Hahahahhaha

Check out the helmet. Soh was lagging it around funan .

I had actually asked him to leave it in the car first and collect it after our shopping trip. But the silly boy insisted to bring it along. The funny thing is that when he paid for his graphic card, the cashier gave him a small bag to put his card. He look at me,shrugged and smile. I couldn't take it anymore and ask the cashier for a bigger bag so he can put both his card and his helmet in the bag.

San-d: Why you don't ask the cashier for a bigger bag??

Soh: Its ok lah, i can still manage.

Ben: Hiyah! Can't you see? He is the Model 3G(3rd Gen) army soldier! (coz in funan - full of IT stuff, and helmet - combat, army)

San-d: .......................... *speechless*

Sidetrack a bit:

Saw the Nintendo Gameboy Micro! Kawaii!! Sooooo small !! But price freaking ex! $219 for this tiny piece of wonder. The salesperson told me that the back light is even brighter than the DS! Makes me jealous. The only minus point is that it can only play GBA's game.

Starlight Cinema and a PINKY Surprise!

Went to watch INITAL D *Zroom Zroom* with Ser, Jo and Jing at the starlight cinema.

Ser, jing and me went to last year's one at Fort Canning before and it was fun!

This year, we came prepared. We brought mats (or rather shower curtains), the psp cushions from my car, mosquito repellant (dengue alert), umbrellas (in case foul weather), 8 days + Nintendo DS (pre show entertainment) and had our dinner while waiting for the show to start.
Being super kiasu, Ser and i went there at 1845hrs to find a good spot!

Hahahahahhahaha.

Jo came slightly later and that poor boy ended up being our "runner"! Help us get drinks, fetch jing at the entrance, collect photo (complimentary photos of ser and me) and buy food!

Evil us. Heh heh heh, no la, Jo is a nice guy, generally helpful and all. After all, we are gals mah! :op

We finally call it a day at around 0330hrs.

Ser and I saw this Pinky bear in a bunny custume watch called MUFFLED at Swatch and we fell totally in LOVE with it.

Ser: Come lah! We all buy together!!

Actually, when i was watching Initial D, i did sms R4 regarding the watch.

San-d's sms to R4: Can you please buy for me a swatch pinky fluffy bunny watch ? It is very cute and very special. The price is $73. Please please please!!!! *begs*

But then, there is no reply from that Bat(bad)man.

And when Jing and I drag him to see MUFFLED.

R4: Wah lau! Seow (crazy) Arh!

Jing and I came to a conclusion : Men. HhmmmpH. What they know about PINKY stuffs! Wahahahahhahahaa....

The next day, while helping R4 to prepare lunch....

R4: *stirring corn soup* Can you go my bag help me get my phone? I wan to call JP buy some stuff.

We had dinner at Thomson area today and since we are there, might as well go "pet shop hopping"(there are at least 4 pet shops around there).

And while on the way back to the car after getting some treats for the furkids...........

Robin: Wah! Warcraft ley.

Batman: Is it?

Note: This naturally caught their attention as both Batman and Robin are gaming seows (addicted to gaming) and especially since the gamers inside are playing warcraft . Warcraft is the MMORPG that Batman is totally addicted to . Addicted is an understatement. He is OBSESSED!

Robin: Wah! The character can sit on the Dragon ley!

Batman: *smug look* Mine also can.

Buttercup : But Ariel is welcomed to come to the superheroes' hideout to chill. Later can ask Batman to send Ariel home in the BatMobile. Hehheh.

Who wanna be a Super Star??

Went to an impromtu KTV session with Jeff, Kel and Mimi.

These Guys were medics working with me when i was the senior medic at ***** medical centre (*****= cannot say lah *mouth zipped*)

We tried to get the others to come, but they are all busy so.... hence the 4 of us.

Had a great time ! Though we 'murdered' a lot of songs. :op

If Lee Hom or JJ or Fish or Jay sings like us, they wil not be in the music industry ever in their life.

To be frank, we are that Baddddddddddd.........

Bad or not, KTV is a nice place to 'practise' to be the next super star and for fellowship.

There was a passing shower of less than a minute and when it stopped, the rainbow appeared.
The colors were so vivid. I am completely awed.
